At just four months old, Harvey was diagnosed with Sagittal Craniosynostosis. We were given only one week's notice: he needed skull surgery - and quickly. The less invasive option was only possible within a very small window of time. It was overwhelming. Our tiny baby who hadn’t even had a scratch or bruise, was about to undergo major surgery. Our hearts broke.

The three-hour procedure at SickKids was a success, but the journey didn’t end there. Just 10 days later Harvey began helmet therapy, something we knew very little about. What we didn’t expect was the amount of travel involved: for the next 6.5 months, we drove from Sudbury to Toronto 2–4 times a month for helmet fittings and adjustments. Managing those long trips especially through winter was a challenge all on its own.

But through it all, our incredible Orthotics team at SickKids made every visit feel lighter. Their kindness, encouragement, and genuine care carried us. They truly became like family.

We are deeply grateful we were able to access funding through the SickKids Craniofacial Program to help cover the cost of Harvey’s helmets. This funding exists solely because of donations. Without it, we would have had to pay out of pocket. Each helmet costs $2,550, and most children need 3 to 5 over the course of treatment. That support meant so much to our family, and we’ll never forget it.
